The Dodge City Community College Athletics Department will be collecting gifts for the Silver Tree program ahead of the Conqs’ men’s and women’s basketball games today.
Both teams are taking on Cowley College.
The Silver Tree Program, run by the Ford County Volunteer Center, “collects small gifts, necessities and other new, unwrapped items which are then given to seniors in the area.
Bringing a donation to either game gets donors into the game for free. According to a Dodge City Community College press release, examples of some items requested include hats, gloves, pajamas, slippers, blankets, puzzles, sugar-free candy, word searches, handcrafted items and crossword puzzle books to name a few.
The women’s game is scheduled for 1 p.m. The team is 4-6 overall and riding a four-game losing streak, but plays four of the next five at home, starting with Cowley which is 11-1 overall and tied for first in the conference at 7-1 in conference play.
The men’s team plays after, scheduled to start at 3 p.m. They also are riding a four-game losing streak but won’t play again at home for the remainder of 2017 after playing Cowley, which is 9-3 overall in the men’s standings, including 6-2 in conference play.
