NESS COUNTY – Normally arrests are done by the sheriff of a county but according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, that is not the case in Ness County.

According to the KBI, Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple, 47, has been arrested and charged with perjury, making false information, criminal distribution of firearms to a felon and official misconduct.

The KBI began their investigation regarding the misconduct at the request of Ness County Attorney Kevin Salzman.

The accusations against Whipple are alleged to have occurred over the past 4 years.

The arrest took place on Dec. 21 and Whipple went to Rush County District Court to make his first appearance.

Salzman is also the Ford County Attorney and released this statement regarding the arrest of Whipple: "At this time, Sheriff Whipple enjoys the presumption of innocence, and he will receive the same courtesy, dignity and respect our office strives to extend to all individuals facing charges in Ness County."
