The Miss Dodge City Organization is getting the word out on the Miss Dodge City Scholarship Competition to be held on Oct. 6 in Dodge City.

The organization will be looking for "dedicated, hard-working, leadership-driven young women from Kansas," the organization said in a press release.

Funding for the organization is based on sponsorships and donations that are used to cover production expenses, scholarship prizes, and cash prizes.

"We are forever grateful for all of our sponsors for helping to continue the tradition of one of the longest running scholarship organizations in the area," the Miss Dodge City Organization said. "We are looking for sponsors to help us to provide scholarships, sponsor crowns and sashes, sponsor the venue, and be the programs sponsor.

"We have been blessed with amazing sponsors over the last couple of years and we’d like to advertise for your business, too."

A local teen competition will be held as well on Oct. 6.

According to the Miss Dodge City Organization, the teens wishing to compete must be between the ages of 13 to 17 (junior in high school).

All contestants will also need to meet the following requirements:

Be between the ages of 17 and 25; (Miss Contestant) 13 and 17; (junior in high school; Teen Contestants); Be a female United States citizen; Meet residency requirements for competing in a certain city or state; Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization; Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements and be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by the local, state, and national competition(s) in which you compete.

"The Miss Dodge City Organization welcomes contestants of all races, creed, financial status, or religious backgrounds who meet the above requirements," the Miss Dodge City Organization said.

The winners will be crowned as Miss Dodge City, Miss Cowboy Capital, Miss Boot Hill or Miss Dodge City Outstanding Teen who will then compete for the state title.

If any winner from the Miss Dodge City Organization wins a state title, that winner will then move on to the National Miss America Title.

The Miss Dodge City Organization also state that, "Contestants within this competition system will gain valuable experience and develop life skills that will benefit your everyday life (i.e. interview skills, public speaking, leadership skills, interpersonal communication, social interaction, etc.); Earn quality scholarship funds for college and graduate school, regardless of whether a title is won; Create awareness of your potential strengths and increase your self-confidence; Find new interests and discover new opportunities; Make lifelong friendships and relationships with your peers, as well as other generations; Gain a sense of accomplishment by using your free time in a positive and constructive manner; Learn to set goals, follow them through, and exceed your expectations; Develop a sense of responsibility for helping others; Foster a positive, self-motivated mindset to achieve your goals and receive recognition for your efforts in bettering yourself and your community."

The Miss Dodge City Organization added, "Your road to Miss America starts now. Your business can be recognized by our active organization now and at our competition.
