A man charged with killing his infant son understands the proceedings against him and can help his attorney mount a defense, District Judge Leigh Hood ruled Thursday.
Hood relied on a report from Larned State Hospital, where Francisco Pablo-Bicente underwent a competency evaluation earlier this year. The report concluded that Pablo-Bicente was competent to stand trial despite his lack of education, which made it difficult for him to conduct lengthy conversations.
Pablo-Bicente is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the July 2, 2008, death of his infant son, Juan Pablo-Tino. In an unrelated case, he is accused of using another man's identity to get a job at National Beef.
