Information sessions are under way for parents interested in a tuition-free virtual public school through Kansas Connections Academy, an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom.
Kansas Connections Academy is a virtual public school delivering a high-quality, highly accountable, tuition-free education to students in grades K-12 across the state, according to a KCA news release. Enrollment for 2011-12 is going on now.
Connections Academy students learn from home under the instruction of a Kansas-certified teacher through online lessons and phone calls structured to fit a student’s individualized learning needs and schedule. A parent, or “learning coach,” also plays an integral role in a student's education, serving to monitor academic progress in the home.
A series of in-person and online information sessions will allow families to meet with a representative of Connections Academy, explore the program and curriculum and learn more about the enrollment process. For more information, visit www.ConnectionsAcademy.com.
Kansas Connections Academy combines highly-qualified teachers, a standards-aligned curriculum and unique technology tools to help students succeed, while also encouraging social growth through numerous electives, clubs and community events. Kansas Connections Academy is operated in partnership with the Elkhart Unified School District 218.
Kansas Connections Academy will host an information session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 22 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2320 W. Wyatt Earp in Dodge City.
    Online sessions are set for 6:30 p.m. June 13, 20 and 27.
