Dodge City and Ford County are looking at ways to make their fire departments more efficient — which could include combining them into one agency.
The Dodge City and Ford County Commissions approved a contract Monday with the McGrath Consulting Group, which will study the two departments and make recommendations to local officials. The city and county will split the $51,155 price tag.
Ford County Fire/EMS Chief Russ Smith retired earlier this year, and Dodge City Fire Chief Dan Williamson will step down next month, said Ford County Administrator Ed Elam. He said those developments created an opportunity to study the departments' structure, staffing and other issues.
"We need some fresh eyes looking at our whole operation," he said.
