The Dodge City and Ford County commissions denied a request Monday to provide sales tax money for a proposed Western Heritage Center.
But the commissioners left open the possibility that the Trail of Fame could renew its request for funding the Western Heritage Center at a later date.
Dodge City Mayor Rick Sowers said the commissioners might be more willing to support the project after the tourism task force issues its recommendations, which may be released next month.
"I think your deal is valid," Sowers told Trail officials during a joint city/county commission meeting. "I just think it fits in a different category for us."
