The Dodge City Commission approved on Monday a proposal to upgrade streets and water lines for a low-income housing development on Brier Street.
The commission authorized the city to extend Brier Street, which currently ends at Avenue H, through to Avenue K. In addition, the city will extend water lines in that area.
Both projects will benefit the InterFaith Housing organization, which plans to build several duplexes on Brier Street between Avenues H and K.
The city will issue general obligation bonds to finance both projects and cover half the expense of extending the water lines, which is expected to cost $183,000. The rest of the cost will be billed to the property owner, who will repay the bonds through special assessments over 10 years.
