The Dodge City Commission took another step Monday toward encouraging developers to boost the city's housing supply.
The commission designated one area in the Ross Addition, located north of U.S. Highway 50 and east of Trinity Manor, and two areas in the Summerlon subdivision as rural housing incentive districts. City officials will submit the designations to the Kansas Department of Commerce for approval.
City Manager Ken Strobel said he expected commerce officials to approve the designations, as they had backed a similar plan involving other districts earlier this year.
"Once that approval is granted — which it was in the first case, and we assume it will be in this case — then the next step is to enter into negotiations with contractors that would be actually involved in the development of property," he said. "Then there will be additional action that you'll need to take after that step."
