A strong winter storm bringing freezing rain and up to five inches of snow is headed toward Dodge City, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm, which originated in the Pacific Northwest and has brought snow to unlikely areas in California, tracked westward last night and today's weather is only supposed to get worse as the day progresses, according to the forecast.
A winter weather advisory has been in effect since 6 p.m. Monday and goes through midnight today.
The forecast calls for scattered flurries during the late morning Tuesday with highs only reaching 18 degrees. North winds from 10-15 mph are forecast with a 50 percent chance of wintry weather in the morning hours Tuesday.
