Washington —
Kansas lawmakers split along party lines in the U.S. House vote on the latest farm bill.
The state’s Democrats voted in favor of the $290 billion measure, while Republicans voted against it.
Republican Rep. Jerry Moran, who represents most of the farmers in the state, has complained that the bill cuts direct payments and crop insurance funding.
Democrat Nancy Boyda says the bill is not perfect, but was backed by most farm groups.
The White House has threatened to veto the measure, claiming it funnels too much money to rich farmers.
But the House passed the bill with more than enough votes to override the veto.
The Senate is expected to vote on the bill Thursday.
