Dodge City's Christmas present is arriving nine days early this year.
Grand opening festivities and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kansas' first state-owned casino will take place Wednesday morning, officially opening the first phase of the two-phase project.
State officials scheduled to attend the event are Gov. Mark Parkinson; Senate President Stephen Morris; Ed Van Petten, executive director of the Kansas Lottery; and Carol Sader, chairman of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.
Other officials on hand will include Clark Stewart, president and CEO of Butler National Corp.; Ford County Commission Chairman Kim Goodnight; Mayor Rick Sowers; and Michael Weece, chairman of the board for the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce.
