Christmas lights lit up the sky in downtown Dodge Monday night as the city's annual Parade of Lights wove through the streets — and it seemed as if everyone in town was there.
The streets were packed with people, and all of them were in a mood that can only be described as ...well, jolly.
As float after glittering float passed though the early winter streets, people cheered, clapped and smiled at one another. A marching band stepped smartly along, its horns gleaming under the lights, and a flatbed truck piled high with Boy Scouts followed soon after.
The Dodge City Kennel Club made a splendid appearance, with human and canine members marching together behind a bright blue banner. A few clusters of onlookers burst into spontaneous song, belting out "Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer" to the delight of some passing children.
