DODGE CITY —

In the third incident in two weeks, a Dodge City Public Schools student was discovered with a weapon in his backpack on school property.
The student, a male second-grader at Sunnyside Elementary School, was found with a BB gun in his backpack Tuesday, according to Dodge City Public Schools.
Tuesday's incident followed the same formula as the other two, said USD 443 public information director Seth  Eckelman.
The student was found with a small BB gun inside his backpack. After being interviewed, the student said he was not aware he had the gun with him.
No one was threatened, Eckelman said, and it appeared the student did not even know the gun was with him.
The student now faces suspension, pending a hearing.
Eckelman said the student told school officials that his brother must have placed the gun in his bag at some point.
A male second-grade student at Beeson was found Wednesday with a knife in his backpack. Two weeks ago, a female third-grade student was found with an air gun in her backpack, unbeknownst to her.
