• Approved a $40.71 million budget for fiscal year 2009.
The budget requires a mill levy of about 49.90 mills, an increase of 1.46 mills from fiscal year 2008. A homeowner whose home is valued at $100,000 would pay an additional $17.25 per year in city-assessed property taxes.
• Approved $351,442 in final costs for a project extending city sewer service to the Happy Homes II and Ranchwood Estates mobile home parks on Trail Street.
The city undertook the project because the mobile home parks were not previously connected to the city sewer service and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment had issued a notice concerning the failure of a private service, according to information from City Hall.
Fifty percent of the funding for the project came from a state community development block grant, 30 percent from the development area and 20 percent from the city. The development area's share of the cost will be paid back to the city through special assessments.
The commission will conduct a public hearing concerning the assessments on Sept. 2.
• Accepted the improvements to Happy Homes II and Ranchwood Estates, which consisted of sewer lines, a life station and a force main.
