Five southwest Kansas residents were injured early Sunday morning when the car in which they were riding went off the road into a ditch.
Liberal resident Khadeeja Mubarak, 37, was southbound on U.S. Highway 50 when she failed to stop at the west junction with U.S. Business 50, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported. Her 1999 Mazda passenger car went off the road and entered the south ditch.
Mubarak and her passengers, Garden City residents Madina Shire, Asho Mohamud, Yahye Mohamed and Egal H. Mohamud, were injured and taken to Western Plains Medical Complex for treatment. Asho Mohamud was later taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she was in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.
A Western Plains Medical Complex spokeswoman said she could not release information about the condition of Mubarak or the other passengers.
Mubarak and Shire were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred, but the others were not, according to the KHP.
