Rural school districts respond to tough times

  As education funding continues to plummet, small school districts are increasingly alert to rumblings from Topeka that warn of forced consolidations.
    Although that's not an issue for Dodge City's USD 443, many of the surrounding districts may have to come to terms with the possibility of consolidation over the next two to three years.
    And while Ingalls, Bucklin and Minneola officials say they have no plans to consolidate, Mullinville and Greensburg are making the leap. The two districts already share staff and buildings, and have combined their athletic teams, but they will move toward full consolidation over the next year.
