Dodge City is keeping its direct air service to Kansas City, at least for the next two years.
Dodge and Garden City were in danger of losing their flights to Kansas City under a recent order from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which had proposed dropping that service as of Oct. 1.
Under that arrangement, Great Lakes Aviation would have eliminated flights from Dodge and Garden to Kansas City but would have still provided air service to Denver.
Local officials discussed the decision with Great Lakes last week, and the air carrier agreed to submit an alternate plan that included some service to Kansas City, City Manager Ken Strobel told the Globe on Wednesday.
The result: A new plan in which Dodge and Garden will each have four round-trip flights to Denver and share one flight to Kansas City each weekday.
