In recognition of Miss Kitty's Quilt Guild’s 30th anniversary, the Dodge City Public Library is sponsoring a quilt show by members of the Guild. Twenty-three quilts are on display in the adult area of the library along with small items in both display cases. Everyone is invited to view the show through April 7 during regular library hours.
Miss Kitty's Quilt Guild of Dodge City began in the living room of Peggy Brisgill in July of l980.
Fifteen women from all walks of life and ages were there because they wanted to share their passion of quilting, fabrics and designs. Thirty years later, the Miss Kitty's Quilters are strong in the belief of their club's purpose: "To love what you do and feel that it matters."
Of the first 15 women, there are four left of the original group. But there are 50 women who joined and created lasting bonds with others through their quilting.
Activities that are enjoyed and repeated over and over are quilt retreats in different areas of the country, traveling to other towns to visit quilt shows and fabric or quilt stores and various speakers on quilting. Quilts for children or families in need are made for the community and donated each year. Miss Kitty's Quilters are working with The Circle of Hope cancer group in making lap blankets for each person who undergoes treatment in cancer.
The Miss Kitty's Quilter's Guild meets once a month at the Senior Center at 7 p.m., with a business meeting, a program on some aspect of sewing, quilting or new methods of doing a task easier. At Show and Tell, finished or semi-finished projects are brought to showcase for everyone to see close up and obtain information about patterns, fabric, embellishments or "How did you do that?"
Miss Kitty's guild meets throughout the year, and new members are welcomed to join at any meeting. For more information, please call Nancy Sherer, president of the guild, at 620-227-7377.
For more information about the show, please contact the library at 225-0248 or on the Web at www.dcpl.info. The library is located at 1001 North Second Ave. in Dodge City.
