A 10-year-old horse named “Holly Star” has been saved after falling into a backyard pool in North Marshfield.
The Marshfield Fire Department was called to 465 Union St. at 2:30 this afternoon. The horse had fallen into the deep end of the home’s backyard pool, plunging through its cover.
It took 25 rescuers to save the horse, which has a stable at the home.
Firefighters removed the pool cover and helped the horse into the shallow end of the pool while keeping its head above water. The Plymouth County Tech Rescue team used special harnesses to get the horse out.
The horse was in the pool’s water – then a frigid 44 degrees – for about an hour. A local veterinarian responded and sedated the horse and the horse appears to be in good health, the fire department reported around 4:30 p.m.
