   When a stunning event like a natural catastrophe hits — and you unexpectedly are in the middle of it — you have no time to think of your own death.
   That was what John Maples learned when he felt the 7.0-magnitude earthquake shaking the ground beneath his feet in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on January 12. Maples is assistant director of the Southwest Kansas Area Cooperative District 613 for the Dodge City area. And he considers himself a survivor of a tragedy which he was not supposed to survive or even witness.
