DODGE CITY —

• Approved a resolution authorizing the county to proceed with its annual tax sale, designed to enforce liens on real estate which has been sold to the county for delinquent taxes and has not been redeemed.
The number of properties on the auction block this year has dropped from 60 to 52 to 21, said Ford County Treasurer Debra Pennington. She added that taxes, interest and fees on those properties totaled about $78,000.
The commission also directed its legal advisor, Glenn Kerbs, to hire an abstractor to provide services which would allow the county to proceed with the sale. However, the commission did not set a date for the sale.
The sale applies to properties on which real estate taxes have been delinquent for at least three years. After tax sale documents are filed in Ford County District Court, the owner can redeem the property up to one day before the sale.
Kerbs said that he thought conducting the tax sale once a year has improved property tax collections.
    • Approved a request to eliminate food pass access from certain cells at the new law enforcement center but add it to other cells, which will add $8,056 to the project's estimated price tag.
Sheriff Dean Bush said the change was necessary for safety and security reasons.
Despite the change, the project is still within the county's original $19 million estimate.
