To celebrate Artists’ Appreciation Month in August, you are invited to join Presbyterian Manor of the Plains at the 28th annual Art is Ageless exhibit. From Aug, 9 to Sept. 6, the community is invited to visit the Carnegie Center to view works ranging from photography to painting to crafts by artists from throughout the area who are 65 and older.
"We look forward to this exhibit each year," said Patty McGee, Presbyterian Manor marketing director. "As the juried exhibit has expanded to seven categories and is now inclusive of artists from throughout the area who are 65 and older, the exhibit continues to grow."
A special artists’ reception will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Carnegie Center. The community is invited to attend to meet the artists.
"I enjoy the wide variety of entries because it shows the different ways people use unusual techniques for a project," said Norma Schoen, a winner in 2007. For art enthusiasts or those who simply want to learn more about art, the Manor also will host a demonstration by Norma Clare on Aug. 17 during the reception at Carnegie.
The Art is Ageless juried exhibit is the preliminary judging phase for the Art is Ageless calendar contest, an annual tradition of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, the parent organization of Presbyterian Manor of the Plains. A contest to select works for the calendar, which represents retirement communities throughout the Presbyterian Manor system, began in 1980 and has been held annually since. The purpose is to generate awareness that aging doesn’t necessarily mean giving up things we enjoy, and we may even find new talents.
First place entries in each category and the best of show will be submitted in the system wide contest for the 2009 calendar, occasion and note cards. Judges for the juried exhibit this year are: Patricia Herndon of Dighton, Norma Clare and Dave Wetmore of Dodge City.
The 28th annual exhibit is made possible by Carnegie Center for the Arts and Western Plains Medical Complex.
