A Wellington staple is now up for sale.
Wellington's Steakhouse, Roundup Room, and the Steakhouse Motel properties are for sale at a listed price of $895,000, according to Mark Krusor, spokesman.
The property is located at 1311 E. 16th Street in Wellington and is being sold by Grubb & Ellis/Martens Commercial Group in Wichita.
Cleaning crews have been readying the building for the sale, and caused a stir, Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the Wellington Steakhouse after fire alarms in the building started to go off. Crews later found the cleaning crews had accidentally set off a sensor for the alarms while steam cleaning inside the building, Sumner County Sheriff Gerald Gilkey said.
The business was closed July 5 “due to the health of the principals,” an e-mail stated.
Employees expecting to come back from their July 4th weekend instead received phone calls at 6 a.m., the morning of the closure to tell them they were out of work.
Wellington Chamber of Commerce Director Shelley Hansel- Williams is hopeful a buyer will purchase the property.
“I think it’s prime real estate. If I had any money to spare, I would buy it because you can just tell there is a void in our community, especially on Sunday for people to go have Sunday lunch and I think with the tournaments this past weekend, we had to turn people away and turn away business and nothing pains a Chamber Director more than to send somebody out of town to stay,” Hansel-Williams said.
“I think it’s going to be snatched up immediately,” she said. “I want the jobs and the business back open...we need those things so desperately and the thing is whoever is buying it better get it done now because depending on what happens with the casino, that real estate property value could go up tremendously.”
