John Henry “Johnny” Sherer, 82, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his home in Mullinville.
He was born Dec. 22, 1925, to Henry H. and Ruby L. (Immer) Sherer on a farm south of Mullinville. He married Ruth Thach on July 15, 1949. He later married Jackie Lembright on Aug. 21, 1971, in Dodge City. She survives.
He graduated from Mullinville High School in 1943 and attended Kansas State College. A lifetime resident of Mullinville, Johnny was a farmer and rancher.
Johnny was a member of the Mullinville United Methodist Church, Booster Club and Masonic Lodge No. 399 A.F. and A.M., all of Mullinville; Star of Hope Chapter No. 193 of The Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion, both of Greensburg; The Scottish Rite, Wichita; and Median Shrine, Dodge City. He was also a member of the board of United Methodist Mexican American Ministries.
Other survivors include one son, Rick Sherer and wife, Cathy, Mullinville; one daughter, Linda Rhodes and husband, Robert, Derby; a stepson, Jim Lembright and wife, Julie, Dodge City; two stepdaughters, Pam Weber, Green Valley, Ariz., and Jill Copeland and husband, Reed, Coffeyville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mullinville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Rose presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.
Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin.
