Shirley Joan Wasko, 73, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at her home in rural Jetmore.
She was born April 7, 1936, in Jetmore to Fred LeRoy and Nettie Margaret Hayward Smith. She married Quinton Hubin on May 8, 1970. He preceded her in death March 18, 1975. On Nov. 24, 1976, she married Clark Wasko at Jetmore. He survives.
A lifetime resident of the area, she worked for USD 227 as the grade school librarian for 27 years and was a sheriff's dispatcher for Hodgeman County.
Other survivors include three sons, Kendall Hubin, Wichita, Travis Hubin, Wichita, and Brad Hubin, Ottawa; two daughters, Candy Campbell, Canon City, Colo., and Gayle Lorett, Jetmore; two brothers, Dean Smith, Kansas City, Kan., and Gene Smith, Woodland Park, Colo.; two sisters, Maurine Frair, Everett, Wash., and Pauline Housman, Dodge City; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Smith, and a sister, Faye Steele.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Jetmore, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore.
