Josie Torres, 61, died Friday, July 17, 2009, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
She was born June 5, 1948, to Jose M. and Magdalena (Dominguez) Rubio at Lubbock, Texas. She married Ernest Torres Sr. on Aug. 15, 1964, at Leoti. He survives.
She moved to Leoti in the early 1960s.
Other survivors include two sons, Ernest Torres Jr., Leoti, and Isaac Torres, Lakewood, Colo.; three daughters, Glenda L. Ledesma, Kyle, Texas, Alicia Torres, Thornton, Colo., and Elizabeth Ponce and husband, Filemon, Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Domingo Rubio, Redwood City, Calif.; four sisters, Catarina Jimenez, Dallas, Dominga Salinas, Alamo, Texas, Gloria Gutierrez, Faribault, Minn., and Guadalupe Garza, Denver; 13 grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Moses Torres; and a granddaughter, Madison Torres.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God of the Firstborn, Garden City, with Pastor John Janas presiding. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at the Leoti Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church.
