    Herman J. Flax, 74, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney.
    He was born Oct. 3, 1935, to Godfried and Catherine (Weber) Flax in Arnold. He married Joan (Graf) Flax on Aug. 3, 1959. She survives. 
    He was a farmer/stockman.
    Other survivors include six sons, Kenny Flax of Gove, Terry Flax of Ransom, Kevin Flax of Ransom,  Brad Flax of Dodge City, Jeff Flax of Dodge CIty and Brian Flax of Lindsborg; four brothers, Ignatius Flax of Hays, Leonard Flax of Wright, Lawrence Flax of Dodge City and Father Myron Flax of Colorado Spring, Colo.; two sisters, Helen Schuler of Ness City and Sister Mary Ann Flax of Lexington, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
    A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney.  The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney.  A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Ransom.  Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Schmitt Funeral Home.
    Memorials may be made to Walk-A-Thon for Health or Masses. Memorials may be mailed to Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Personal condolences may be made to the family at www.schmittfuneral.com.
