Larry LeRoy Smith, 73, of Niwot died at home May 8, 2008.
He was born Jan. 3, 1935 in Dodge City to LeRoy and Mercedes (Yarberry) Smith. He married Mary Joanne Dunnington on Aug. 14, 1964 in Arlington, Va.
He graduated from Bucklin High School in Bucklin and received his degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan. While in college he had his own dance band and also received his private pilot’s license. He served in the US Air Force.
They moved to Longmont in 1984 from Washington Crossing, PA.
He worked for NASA (Goddard Space Flight) as a test engineer for the Hubble space project at Ball Brothers.
He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church, Chairman of the Church Elder Board, president of West Point Townhomes HOA and long time member of Gideon’s International. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, camping, boating, photography and playing the tenor saxophone.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo, Niwot; two sons, Eric Smith and his wife Gretchen of Thornton, Colo., and Brian Smith and his wife Robyn, Broomfield, Colo.; a daughter, Cynthia Reiners and her husband Chris, Thornton, Colo.; a sister, Judy Kilgore, Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harvest Church, 7493 Old Mill Trail, Boulder, CO. Interment Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
