John Willis Holding, 87, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born on June 16, 1920 at White Pigeon, Michigan, the son of Roy T. and Pearl (Rosebrook) Holding. On July 14, 1948, he married Constance Mary Booth. She preceded him in death in 1988 in Aurora, Illinois.
He was a resident of Palco, Kansas for twenty years, moving there from Aurora, Ill., where he had lived for over thirty years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for many years in Aurora. He enjoyed traveling the country in his motor home and had visited Canada on several occasions. Mr. Holding was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne, serving during WWII.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Palco; the National Association of Letter Carriers; the 82nd Airborne Veterans Association; the Winnebego International Cavalry; and the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Holding, North Richland Hills, Texas and David Holding, Keller, Texas; three daughters, Elaine Morgan, Fayetteville, Tenn., Linda Palmberg, Newkirk, Okla., and Rosemary Hall, Andrews, Texas; one brother Roger Holding, McAlester, Okla..; one sister, Mary Louise Pegg, Bristol, Ind., twelve grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at a later time in Newkirk, Okla.
