Bernard H. Kinkelaar, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Dodge City on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010.
He was born April 15, 1926, at Lewis to Henry Garrett and Elleanora Anna (Minet) Kinkelaar.
Bernard was a retired farmer and building contractor. He also served in the U.S. Naval Amphibious Forces in the southwest Pacific from 1944 to 1947 and was in the Naval Reserves until 1952.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosanna Kinkelaar of Dodge City; three sons, Rodney Kinkelaar and wife, Diana, of Wichita, Bennett Kinkelaar of Wichita, and Mark Kinkelaar and wife, Kay, of Lenexa; two daughters, Judy Schlotfeldt of Dodge City and Donna Dauer and husband, Norman, of Lindsborg; and one sister, Louise Bushnell of Carl Junction, Mo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Kinkelaar; his parents; one brother, Joe; four sisters, Lucille Schroeder, Catherine Hertel, Sister Rose Rita Kinkelaar and Sister Victor Kinkelaar; and two great-granddaughters.
A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with the Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City, with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post 1714.
Visitation will be from noon to 6:30 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.
