 PROTECTION — Lawrence Albert Rich, 92, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater.
    He was born June 10, 1917, to Joseph Albert and Mable (Young) Rich on a farm north of Protection. He married Geraldine Irene Park on Feb. 12, 1939, at Kiowa. She survives.
    He was a farmer and rancher.
    Other survivors include three sons, Larry Rich and wife, Alice, Ashland, Jerry Jay Rich and wife, Sara, Protection, and Randy Rich and wife, Jill, Ankeny, Iowa; one daughter, Kay Sawyers and husband, Jon, Protection; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Barry Lee Rich; one granddaughter, Cherlyn Grace Rich; one brother, Lloyd Rich; and one sister, Emma Rich.
    The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Protection, with Pastor Brandon Hagins presiding. Burial will be in the Protection Cemetery.
    Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater.
    Memorials are suggested to the Protection Township Library or the Pat Rich Memorial Fund in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.
