DODGE CITY —

Poets are the metaphor-makers. Its like saying, “The sun is an orange.” The rest of us find solace in trying to find the analogy between the sun and an orange. We just compare it but don't dare to assert it.
Or do we? I have heard that a little girl is a doll, and a teenage girl is an early rose. And those, no matter who wrote or said them, are metaphors.
There is always the possibility of seeing through a viewfinder to have better options in life.
Look for the silver lining, as a song says. Just imagine the blue when clouds get in your way, and in an economy like this, we had better think the sun is a golden coin. See how, in a way, you have the ingredients to make metaphors?
Remember, the world would be uninhabitable if we didn't do our job of planting, replenishing and avoiding excess fumes from motors. Instead of throwing in the trash a bottle which will take millions of years to disappear, create a habitat for an animal. Make the world smell good with fresh flowers, not plastic ones.
Think of the poetic force you can reach by participating in this planet’s new face. Don't look the other way; instead, be counted as participating in the right task. Think that when something belongs to you, it starts a cycle of responsibilities, and the largest and biggest of them all is to be counted as one of the owners of the planet. Yes, get to work. Don't get scared, and don't be delayed.
Let's remember, the landscape will stay eternally but it may include trash — indestructible items kept by a disastrous indifference — unless you do something. Repaint, polish, make a new path, give small trees a place, use water wisely. Think as if you were refurbishing your own home and give the big land — our planet — a chance.
If we can create a new wonderful world with words, it’s because we are ready to make a golden coin out of the sun and a gigantic trunk of hope and treasure out of the old planet. Let's get started.
The more it takes to rebuild your castle, the more it will cost in money, in effort and in results.
There was a time when men tried to find new routes and make distances shorter, making it possible because they applied themselves to it. And as far as I remember, this is the second time around that they are trying to find the unreachable star, and it makes us wonder if we are going to succeed for the second time. I believe we are following our second new intent, only with a big difference. On our first intent, we discovered new lands and put ourselves to work.
This time, everyone should be involved in the conquest of a new planet, not just pieces and remnants. On this opportunity, it refers to a colossal task as universal as the creation itself. Not anymore are we limited to discoverers, old sails and weather vanes, but we are beyond maps, boats and distribution of richness. Understand this time, we are now all owners of the lands, oceans, rivers and lakes. No more kingdoms to reign, but every man gets to work, to enjoy everything from a leaf to a clean cloud, from a creek to a waterfall. Let's be this time owners of the rain, the mountains and the insects.
And let's be sure the sun is a golden coin.
