What started out as a beautiful day turned to a realization of just how quickly life can possibly change.
My kids were very anxious to get outside Saturday morning to start the day while the sun was shining. So on the tricycle my daughter heads and in the wagon my son goes and around the block we start, stopping to chit-chat with our neighbors about how great it is to finally be outside. On we make our way as my daughter stops and says, “Mom, do you hear those sirens? It sounds like a fire truck.”
“Yes, sweetie I do,” and at that brief moment things take a quick turn of events. I turn around to make sure my daughter is on the side of the road, as many times she can get wild on her bike and be in the middle, and no longer did I turn back around to find the sirens right near us, as a high-speed chase was coming towards us extremely fast. Thank God for motherly instincts as I grabbed my daughter and literally, as she put it, “threw me over the house” as she tells the story, but also turned around to grab my son out of the wagon and run to the side to avoid this car and Highway Patrol speeding right up our street.
