DODGE CITY —

"I was calling about the article on the uninsured motorists. I don't feel it is fair that I ought to pay more money for my tags when people don't want to carry full coverage on their car.

"Thursday’s opinion line article promoted me to call.  Here is what I have to say to the individual calling to complain about the fourth of July in last Thursday’s Globe: they should be thankful that the noise that was so disturbing  was not mortars live gunfire,  and bombs. It is our great country’s independence. If I had never been so miserable in my life in some far off place under siege fighting for our country, maybe some people would welcome what the fourth of July is all about."

"In reference to the Thursday edition, looking for ways to help in aiding motorists  hit by uninsured drivers, wanting to raise the price of vehicles tags is ridiculous. Let’s punish the uninsured motorists not us legal insured motorists. When stopped by the police issue a citation and impound the vehicles; let them pay the price."

"I hear the Democrats are providing a fund to be used by persons who have sustained damage from uninsured drivers, how nice of them, where do I apply to receive these funds? Also now I can cancel my auto insurance, and who knows how many insurance offices can be put out of business.  Happy days are here again!"

"I see where our city is trying to retain its first place standing in having the  highest property tax by raising our mill levy nearly 10 mills. This should present a real challenge to our county, school and college boards to keep from not exceeding the tremendous mill levees we had last year."

"I just read the article from our city manager talking about cleaning our city up. Then he better take a look at 14th and high street that business has been there a year almost and it is still not completed; it looks horrible."

"I'm not a pioneer of Dodge City but I do live here now. Last week I drove to our world famous downtown business area and was so impressed with how neat and clean and inviting those old brick buildings as well as new remodeled buildings, it gave me a peaceful feeling knowing thousands of tourists do travel to and through Dodge City on Wyatt Earp and I hope they are impressed as I was."

"Good job county commissioners on cutting the budget for building the new law enforcement center. Why can’t the City Commission cut some of their budgets instead of raising our already high  mill levy. Working within the budget can be done. I have to do it every month twelve months out of the year."

"Regarding the huge mill levy increase by the city, apparently the city department is unaware of the soft local economy most local citizens have had to make personal financial sacrifices and cut backs due to food and fuel and other expenses, but city staff members go on making large increases in spending without regard to citizens pocket books. If a city and other local taxing units want to hurt a local economy further, keep raising taxes and pull more dollars out of our local economy."

"The plants that have been planted on Wyatt Earp look really nice and I hope they continue it out where the highway is getting bigger because it would make a good impression for people coming in from Garden City. It looks really nice."

"Just wanted to thank you for putting in the map for the rummage sales; it is great. Thank you!"

"Concerning the reorganization of the Ford County Council on Aging, since the county commission already said how the proceeds from senior services mill levy have been distributed,  it makes one wonder what the real reason for the reorganization is."
"A suggestion to the county commissioners in the reorganization of the Ford County Council on Aging, I would suggest the board of each entity select their own representative to the council rather than the county commission selecting the members of the council. This would be a better representation from each organization."
