I received a speeding ticket (Case #0937105) for driving 33 mph in a 20 mile per hour construction zone on Saturday night, 12/5/09, at 11:35 p.m. at 2400 W. Wyatt Earp in  Dodge City, which is the La Quinta Inn address. I didn't know officers had radar equipment that can reach from the highway west of the Dodge House to the La Quinta Inn location.
Officer Sammer stated that I was driving 33 miles per hour in a  20 miles per hour speed limit construction zone. Officer Sammer said signs are posted at the Kentucky Fried Chicken location and are posted every so often as you drive west on Wyatt Earp. I would like to state that Officer Sammer was very professional and polite.
The purpose of my letter is to express the thoughts in my mind about being pulled over for speeding. I am a 52-year-old white male, a very cautious driver, always doing my best to obey the law, and I have the greatest respect for the people that work in law enforcement. My co-workers tease me for driving like an old man and for driving too slow. It is ironical that I receive a speeding ticket for $129.50 for driving 33 miles per hour. Wait until I tell the guys at work.
It is my responsibility to see all street signs and to be totally honest with you, I did not see the 20 miles per hour signs. I did not have a clue that I was supposed to drive 20 miles per hour from the Kentucky Fried Chicken location all the way west until I get out of town. If I had more time, I would have turned around Saturday night and driven back to the Kentucky Fried Chicken location and drove west again on Wyatt Earp, trying harder to spot the 20 miles per hour signs and look for the “end of construction” sign, which means I can drive the normal stated speed again.
