Hey, Dodge City! What a fine-looking group of mavericks that strutted on the football field Friday night. Those new band uniforms look like the real stuff of Dodge City. Thanks go to all the ladies and gents who made those smart decisions to bring this town back to its historical roots.

I find Cherise Forno to be a very interesting writer. I love reading her articles. I get caught up in the story and must follow it to the end. What a refreshing young writer. Thanks to the Globe for having such excellent reporters as Cherise. We look forward to reading more of her articles.

I like the uninformed comments from “I know very little about economics" in the Globe Exchange. Obviously, they have a computer and yet cannot put it to use by looking up information. If they did, they would know that this was a Clinton problem and that McCain, Bush, and other Republicans tried to change the regulations in 2002, along with predicting that this was going to happen. Just not what the dollar figured would exactly be.

Someone said they’re no longer a Republican because they legislate morality. Does that then mean by becoming a Democrat, there is no morality? You know for as many years as I’ve followed politics, it's always been the same old song, just different singers, with Democrats always saying Republicans are for the rich and Republicans always accusing Democrats of taxing everyone silly. And every presidential year, the same song is sung. But I would like to hear just one time, instead of exaggerations by both sides, just plain support for the American way of life.

Speeding in this town seems to be a priority with a lot of people, and it needs to stop. Why do you think speed limit signs are for everyone else, but not for you? You can replace a vehicle, but not another life. If you're smart enough to have a driver's license, then be smart enough to use it.

According to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, the Obama tax plan would let middle-class tax payers keep, on average, $2,2000 a year, while the richest 1 percent would pay an average of $19,000 more in taxes each year. Under the McCain tax plan, the richest 1 percent would get a tax cut of more than $125,000 a year. So when the McCain campaign says Obama will raise taxes, they are actually talking about the richest 1 percent.
The McCain people make it sound like Obama will raise taxes on everyone, and that's not true. I hope voters pay attention to the facts. The McCain campaign is not speaking the whole truth.

Go, Bonita McClure! What you said was absolutely right in your letter to the editor. Thank you for putting it straight.

I've been to many casinos in my lifetime, and traffic is not an issue. Once a casino is established, people come and go at random. Maybe in the first few days after opening, there will be noticeable extra traffic. But after that, people will come and go in any way that will not impede traffic flow.

Hey, all the voters. If you're like me, you get tired of listening to all this campaign mud-slinging. It's been in progress for about a year or more. How about if the campaigning candidates were only allowed three to four months to sling mud? I myself think this would allow the candidates enough time to tell the voting public all about themselves and what they want to do if elected. Maybe even enough time to sling more mud at their opponents.

We would like to congratulate the Jetmore Junior High football team for their win over South Gray on Oct. 7 by a score of 86-36. We're really proud of you guys.

Rule of thumb ... If the idiots in Hollywood are supporting a candidate, vote for the other guy. We need principled leadership, not someone who goes for the popular position while continuing to push for the next job promotion. Vote McCain!

(Try a little kindness) Thank you, Mr. Pyle, for your article on kindness. Your writing was as eloquent and memorable as the authors you mentioned. I, like you, believe kindness can make a tremendous difference in the world. I also realize how rare it seems to be. Fortunately, every now and then some kind person comes through your life and you forget (at least for a bit) the rudeness, sarcasm and nastiness so often encountered in life, and you are grateful for them. I hope people who are kind know just how much it is appreciated. For my part, I make sure they do.

This is in reference to Bonita McClure's letter to the editor about the casinos and how Dodge City needs to shut up. Bonita, just what expertise do you have in the casino business? I'm pretty sure you've never ever worked in one or had any dealings with one.

Over the weekend, I went riding around on Dodge City streets with my grandson for him to get more drive time and experience towards his restricted permit. He needs a total of 50 hours. We have traveled streets in north, south, west and east Dodge City. My question is: Why the Wyatt Earp one turn-lane group doesn't turn their eyeballs to the potholes in our residential streets, instead of spending megabucks for one-turn lane on West Wyatt Earp. Some of these potholes around on the residential streets are so deep, one almost has to holler for help to get pulled out.

The casino says they're paying 1.5 percent each to Dodge City and Ford County out of their profits. Isn't this kind of cheap, considering how much we'll be paying for new sewers, streets and infrastructure with our tax money?

This is the most important vote we as Christians have ever faced. From the looks of the polls, Christians are not voting Christian values.

Dodge City taxpayers will pay for the acquisition of land to build the four-lane road to the casino. They will also pay for the construction of the road, gas and utility lines, water and sewer lines, extra law officers, fire equipment and firemen. Then, if the taxpayer has any money left, the casino will be available to take that money. The only purpose of a casino is money.
