DODGE CITY —

"Boy, I sure wish that some of our residents of our fair city would abide by city ordinance when certain days are designated to shoot fireworks — July 3, 4 and 5. This is just exactly what this means.
"My neighborhood is still pretty quiet. Not so in other parts of town. We have three dogs, and they go plumb bonkers even during the allowed days of shooting fireworks. I'm sure other folks' pets are the same as ours. Why torture our pets any more than designated days? Please shoot only on the allowed days."

"I wish the commissioners would think more about the fireworks next year. Eleven o'clock at night is awfully late for fireworks to be going off.
"I've got another message for you. I'm on vacation. I want people to beware. I've seen a white van driving through the alley, going through dumpsters. So watch what you're throwing in the trash, people."

("Dodge City Democrat seeking seat in Kansas Senate,” July 1) "Ms. Mead may have had a chance this year, but her immigration stance will cost her votes."

("Immigration roundup yields 48 arrests," June 27) "Well done! Thanks for finally enforcing the law."

(“Seven arrested in rash of graffiti cases,” June 26) "Congratulations to the Dodge City police on catching these graffiti vandals and gang members. And to the parents of these troubled misfits: You can take them to church to learn the Golden Rule, or law enforcement will explain it to them much cheaper."

"When I first moved to Kansas, I was informed by a state trooper that since I had established a residence in Kansas, I had to change my Oklahoma car plates to Kansas plates within 30 days. So I did.
"Now I see plates from Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska and other states, including Mexico, and these people have established a residence here in Kansas and they're working here. I realize that plates in other states are cheaper, but when did the law change? Or is it just not being enforced?
"If that's the case, I'll change my plates back to Oklahoma, where they're cheaper."

"With the rise in fuel prices, let's have our police ride horses while patrolling. This would also help our Western image."

"As a Dodge City property and sales tax payer, I would rather my money be spent on city employees' and school teachers' salaries than $6.5 million on West Wyatt Earp Street."

"I'm wondering who's going to stand the cost of tearing up the artificial turf in Memorial Stadium and replacing it with natural due to the health hazard in the artificial.
"This is just like our Raceway Park: A few people's bright idea."

"Why is the Dodge City Public Schools' television channel 21 — why would they be broadcasting Cinco de Mayo beauty pageant? What does this have to do with the public schools?"

"Just a message for the Animal Control unit here in Dodge City: Please don't treat the people who call in trying to find the owner of an animal that they have found — please don't treat them like they are the criminals.
"I've never been treated so rude in all my life as when we called in trying to find the owner of an animal that we had found, and we were treated like we were the criminals. Don't do that. It's unprofessional."

"I just can't understand these gas prices. People, we are getting screwed here. I'm telling you.
"This morning in Wichita, gas prices were $3.39, and it's over four bucks here. You know, there's just something wrong here. This is not the right kind of picture. I just don't get it."
