DODGE CITY —

("Boot Hill gunfighters bring Old West to life," Aug. 4) "This is living history, and I think it's awesome that it's being done. I don't live there but spent many, many summer vacations there with my grandparents and aunts and uncles. I think it was destiny or fate that I actually married an Earp. Thank you again. I look forward to bringing my kids there to see Dodge City soon."

("Boot Hill gunfighters bring Old West to life," Aug. 4) "I was there, and I enjoyed it very much. My only complaint was some of the actors were a little hard to hear without mics.”

("High fuel prices affect transportation, food services," Aug. 4) "Super!!! Our tax dollars at work!! Has anybody thought about, you know, maybe reinstating the fees to go public schools in Dodge? Because, that MIGHT help. But in the meantime, I'll continue to bleed to death like everyone else."

("Railroad to conduct safety campaign," Aug. 5) "This is a good idea. Is saving five minutes worth ending your life?"

("The clues and what they meant," July 30) "Thanks goes out to the Globe for this annual hunt. We have always participated and had a great time. Great job on the clues, Ed."

("The clues and what they meant," July 30) "Ditto! We looked and saw many others looking. This was a lot of fun for not only Dodge City residents, but surrounding residents as well. Thanks, Globe!"

"Attention, all local smokers: You'd better quit now. You might need that cigarette money for the gambling tables, gasoline or maybe even the church offering plate."

"I would like for some of the government officials that's tied in with the casino project to answer either a 'yes' or 'no.' If our future casino doesn't make a go of it, is the Ford County taxpayer going to have to support it like we are doing with Boot Hill, racetrack and everything else?

"I was just wondering if the grass ordinance does not apply to the alley in between Barbara Lane and Sue Drive. When you go east on St. Joseph and look to the left in the alley, the weeds in the back in the alley are as high as the fence on either side.
"I know the ordinance is — there's meters and stuff back there. I was just wondering when they're going to cut them."

"The big oil companies and their investors made record profits again last quarter, in the billions of dollars. McCain's campaign received donations from big oil companies.
"McCain wants to give corporations, including greedy oil companies, tax breaks. Bush has ties to big oil companies. McCain, McSame as Bush."

"In order to become a citizen of the United States, one must learn the English language. In order to vote, one must be a citizen of the United States. Why, then, are our ballots printed in Spanish?"

"The question is, why doesn't the Friendship Meals and Meals on Wheels want to come to the Senior Center anymore? The reason they don't want to is they were made to feel very unwelcome by both the board and other Senior Center goers.
"Why don't people call the Ford County Commission on Aging? The reason is  people feel that it is a clique that votes themselves in and listens to no other opinion but their own.
"They say that they didn't know that there was a dissatisfaction of the board. What did they think that the meetings and the survey were about that have been going on for several months?"

"I think the firemen did a nice job of cleaning the weeds and stuff out of lots around town before Dodge City Days. But I think they should have got the inmates out ... and let them do some work instead of sitting in there in the cool room and doing nothing.
"It doesn't seem right to me that we have the city firemen doing work like that when there's other jobs they can do. I think they should have got all them inmates out and let them do it."

"I think Matt Martinez, the new sports editor, is doing a good job. I would just like to say, 'Thank you, Matt.'"

"In regards to Cal Thomas' editorials, I think they're very good. They have a lot of common sense in them if you read them right but leave out the campaign deal on it. You'll find that they're very good articles."
