Red Demons head to state soccer

        The Dodge City Red Demons make their first-ever state appearance tonight in Overland Park. The Demons (16-3) take on the Lawrence Free State Firebirds (15-4) at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.

Every die-hard sports fan digs statistics.
    So there’s no better time than now to crunch the numbers for Saturday night’s Class 6A state high school football playoff game.
    Dodge City (7-2) meets Topeka High (6-3), with kickoff set for 6 at Memorial Stadium.
    One thing is certain: both teams showcase explosive offenses as this game has all the earmarks of a shootout.

Conquistadors have easy time with York junior varsity

You had to like the defensive intensity the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team displayed Thursday night against the York (Neb.) College junior varsity.
    Sure, it was a JV team, but sometimes a team’s intensity level drops like a thermometer when playing a lesser opponent.


Greensburg gunning for Clifton-Clyde

After destroying the Minneola High School Wildcats in the first round of the 8-Man, Division I playoffs on Tuesday night, the Greensburg Rangers now advance to the second round of playoffs on Saturday.
    The Rangers (6-4) will take on the Clifton-Clyde Eagles (9-1) in Greensburg at 4 p.m.
    “We’re extremely grateful for the opportunity to play” Greensburg coach Clint Young said. “It’s going to be a tough match-up. They are extremely big. But it’s the same thing as  before. We’ve got nothing to fear and nothing to lose.”

DCHS soccer embarks on first state berth

    They won't settle for just making it to the state tournament.
    After a 2-1 win over the Maize High School Eagles Tuesday night in the Class 6A quarterfinals, the Dodge City Red Demons are headed to the state tournament for the first time in school history in soccer on Friday.

    This weekend, after a lot of effort by volleyball coach Shaun Pohlman and athletic director Howie Smith, Dodge City Community College will host the NJCAA Region VI Division volleyball championship tournament.


Red Demons had All-WAC campaign

    Even though the Dodge City High School Red Demons volleyball team didn't make it to state, they have a lot to be proud of this season.
    The Demons finished 25-10 overall and were the Western Athletic Conference Champions. It's the first time in 13 years that they could claim that title.


Meade handles Sublette

    Meade High School features a running-backs-by-committee in its vaunted rushing attack.
    One back in particular stood out among the rest Tuesday night during unbeaten Meade's 40-16 win over Sublette in Class 2A Bi-District state playoff action Tuesday night.

MINNEOLA —

    It was power football all right.
    And in the first round of 8-Man Division I playoffs, the Greensburg Rangers now 6-4, were far too powerful for the undefeated Minneola Wildcats.
