Meade's Taylor Headrick won three events Friday to highlight individual area action in the Class 2A Pretty Prairie track regional, while the Sublette girls track team claimed the regional team title by 40 points over runner-up Moundridge.
Headrick won both hurdles events on the day — 14.92 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and 40.21 in the 300 intermediate hurdles — and also won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 6 inches.
Sublette won four events and scored 106 points as a team. Emily Lucas won the high jump with a leap of 5-3, while Sumr Robinett won the long jump with a leap of 15-10. Both are favorites at next week's state meet at Wichita State University's Cessna Stadium.
Robinett also qualified for the state meet in the triple jump (second, 33-8 1/2) and the 100 hurdles (second, 16.44).
Other girls individual state qualifiers from Sublette included Hope Lucas (100, third, 13.10; second, 200, second, 27.10) and Megan Reiss (200, third, 27.81; 100, fourth, 13.33; 400, fourth, 1:03.43).
Other area schools at the girls regional included Meade (39, fifth), Satanta (28, 10th) and Spearville (two, 15th). Kinsley also participated in the meet but failed to score.
The Buffaloes finished second in the boys team standings with 75 points. Sterling won the team title with 104 points, followed by Meade and Sublette (68 each). Spearville finished eighth (26), Kinsley 11th (18), and Satanta 14th (4).
Sublette won two boys individual titles: Brice Peters in the javelin (176-4) and Brandon Webb in the high jump (6-0). Spearville won the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.48.
Other area dual state qualifiers include Kinsley's Jordan Espinosa (long jump, second, 20-5; high jump (fourth, 5-10); Meade's Trent Wiens (300 hurdles, second, 41.08; pole vault, fourth, 12-0); and Sublette's Kevin Torres (shot put, third, 46-6; discus, fourth, 136-2).
Cimarron competes in Class 3A meet
Brooke Fairbank led the Cimarron Lady Bluejays by qualifying for two events Friday at the Class 3A regional at Lakin. Fairbank finished second in the discus with a throw of 105 feet, 5 inches and fourth in the shot put with a distance of 33-6 1/4.
Cimarron finished eighth in the team standings with 31 points. Freshman Tatiana Chandler finished third in triple jump (33-4) for the other individual Cimarron qualifier. The 4x100 relay team finished fourth with a time of 52.30 and the 4x400 relay also finished fourth at 4:17.63.
Norton won the girls team title with 122 points, followed by Hays Thomas More Prep with 67.
Cimarron's boys scored one team point and finished 15th in their team standings and didn't get anyone qualified for the state meet. Scott City won the boys team title with 124 points, followed by Phillipsburg with 87.
