Even though the Dodge City High School Red Demons volleyball team didn't make it to state, they have a lot to be proud of this season.
The Demons finished 25-10 overall and were the Western Athletic Conference Champions. It's the first time in 13 years that they could claim that title.
"I'm very happy with the season," DCHS coach Kate Szymczak said. "It's the best record since I've been in Dodge City, and to be WAC Champs after 13 years is just awesome."
In addition to being WAC champions, five players as well as Szymczak earned WAC honors.
A'zlynn Thompson was named as the WAC volleyball player of the year.
First-Team All-WAC honors went to Emily Scheck, Mallory Ratts and Codi Ehrlich.
Honorable Mention went to Brenna Briggs.
"I'm very excited and impressed," Szymczak said. "I'm proud. Their performance in front of other WAC teams was outstanding."
Szymczak was named WAC Coach of the Year .
"The program is moving in the right direction," Szymczak said. "You can tell by all the recognition we got.
“But these players are the reason why I'm coach of the year. Without their hard work and dedication, I wouldn't be where I am."
