Dodge City —

For the first time in school history, the Dodge High boys and girls track teams each captured first place in regional competition Friday.
The Red Demon boys won their third straight Class A regional title, and the Lady Demons surpassed last year's second-place finish with a title of their own, said head track coach Justin Burke. It was the girls first team title since 1996 and their second championship in school history.
"We did a real nice job," Burke said. "We qualified 31 kids for state."
Now the teams will prepare for their next challenge: The state meet, set for next Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
The Dodge High boys led the field of eight teams Friday with 136 points, and Maize finished second with 111. On the girls' side, Dodge High earned 118 points, followed by Goddard with 109.
All three boys' relay teams won the chance to represent Dodge City at the state track meet, with the 400-meter relay team of Cliff Burdick, Toby Boese, Dylan Hartnett and Bobby Krahn capturing first place, Burke said. The four won the league title last week.
Dodge's 1,600-meter relay team took second, and the 3,200-meter relay team came in third.
On the girls' side, Kaley Temaat qualified for state in three events: the two-mile run, the one-mile run and the 800-meter dash. She took second in the two-mile run and first in the other two events.
Jenna Stremel won the javelin throw, set a new school record in the discus throw and placed second in the shot put, Burke said.
"She had an all-star performance today," he said.
The girls 100-meter and 3,200-meter relay teams also qualified for state, and Courtney Brady finished second in the girls 200-meter dash.
