ASHLAND —

The Ashland Bluejay football season ended Tuesday when they were defeated in the Bi-District playoffs by the South Barber Chieftains, 28-18.
It was the battle of the defenses in the first quarter as neither team could get into the end zone.
In the second quarter Bluejay Ben Fox was the first to score on a 15 yard run. The Bluejays extra point attempt was denied by the Chieftains.
It was the Chieftains turn to return the favor with 3:30 left on the clock when Cayde Sterling carried the ball in from four yards out. Blake Wagenbach scored the extra two to give South Barber the lead at 8-6.
With 36 seconds left on the scoreboard Ben Fox ran 16 yards for another Bluejay touchdown. Once again the Chieftains stopped the extra two. The score was now 12-8, Ashland. Not giving up with 10 seconds left in the first half South Barber's Christian Johnson completed a 29 yard pass to Ben Stacey for another Chieftain touchdown. The Bluejay's defense held out South Barber on the extra two. The half ended with South Barber in the lead 14-12.
Ashland was back on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Corey Stebens completed a 34 yard pass to Ervin Swonger. This put the Jays back in front at 18-14. That lead did not last long with 4:34 left in the period Blake Wagonbach ran in the ball in from the three yard line and Cadye Sterling carried it in for the extra two to give the lead back to South Barber at 22-18.
The fourth quarter was once again a battle but unfortunately the Jays were plagued with several offensive mistakes which the Chieftains then capitalized on. With 2:42 left to play Cadye Sterling ran the ball in for the final six of the game to give South Barber the win at 28-18 and advance them on to Regional play against Victoria.
