The Bucklin Lady Aces basketball team fell in a hard loss Tuesday night, losing 53-28 to the Meade Lady Buffaloes.

For the Buffaloes, it was a dominating performance from start to finish.

“We obviously weren’t ready to play that first quarter,” Red Aces head coach Craig Bowman said. “That then kind of set the tempo.”

Bowman said it might have been the attitude the team came out with as a whole, but a lot of it was the team’s inability to get anything going offensively.

The Buffaloes started the game on a 14-0 run before the Red Aces even got on the board with a single free throw. By the end of the first quarter, the Buffaloes led 17-3.

“They did a good job guarding us in that man-to-man defense and we couldn’t get the ball to where we wanted it to,” Bowman said.

If there was a bright spot for the Red Aces, it was the second quarter, when they outscored the Buffaloes 9-5.

Though he said the Red Aces’ response to the first quarter positive, he said he doesn’t want that to require him having to yell at them, something he told the team as well.

“They’re going to have to take pride in their work and do that themselves,” Bowman said. “We’ll get there. They’ve got enough pride in their abilities that they’re gonna get there.”

In the end, Bowman said, the team just needs to be patient and work through the process, something he told them as well, even if it’s frustrating early on.
