Good morning from the Sports Desk. Here is your morning update for Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Softball postponed

The Dodge City Red Demons softball regional in Garden City has been rescheduled for tomorrow, May 16, 2018, according to an update announced via Twitter by Dodge City High School Athletics.

The Red Demons will take on the Topeka West Pioneers at 2 p.m, and the winner of that game will advance to the Regional Championship Game at 5 p.m. against either Garden City or Hutchinson.

Dodge City finished the regular season 15-5 overall after sweeping the Liberal Redskins 15-2 and 22-6 last Thursday.

Girls soccer season ends

The Red Demons girls soccer team fell in double overtime to Lawrence Free State Monday night, losing the game 2-1. Freshman Alicia Solis had the lone Red Demon Goal.

The loss means the season is over for the Red Demons.

Solis scored the game’s first goal, getting on the board in the second half. Free State tied the game at 1-1 afterward, scoring with just 2:18 left in regulation. Both teams fought through a scoreless first overtime before the Firebirds scored in the second overtime.

The Red Demons finish the season with a record of 6-8-2.

Boys golf going to state

The Red Demons boys golf team finished second at Monday's Regional golf tournament in Dodge City. The result: They're going to state. I spoke to head coach Jim Mapel afterward, and it was clear to me he was proud of his team, while also aware they have work to do to get ready for next Monday's State tournament in Leawood.
