The Dodge City Red Demons softball team met its match in the late hours Thursday night, falling in five innings to the Olathe North Eagles.
Originally-scheduled for 5 p.m., the game was heavily delayed due to weather, not starting until hours later. In the end though, the Eagles offense was too much regardless of start time.
Olathe North scored five runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Dodge City’s only run came in the fifth inning when senior Shaylyn Turner batted in sophomore Zabree Rodriguez.
Rodriguez led all Red Demons with a team-high two hits. Turner, senior Grace Ruehle, senior Jessica Olivarez and sophomore Elise Helfrich all had one hit each.
Pitching-wise, it was a rough day for the Red Demons, as junior Raegan Lopp and freshman Raemie Lopp combined for just one strikeout in the game. Reagan threw for three innings, allowing five hits, eight runs with two of them earned, and six walks and one strikeout. Raemie pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three hits, three runs with two of them earned, no walks and no strikeouts.
The Red Demons finished the season 17-6 overall, Western Athletic Conference Champions and Regional Champions.
