Just narrowly missing the playoffs in 2017, head women's soccer coach Steward Bortey announced Dodge City's schedule for the 2018 season on Wednesday.
"I am very excited for this season and very excited to see all of the preparations we have made come together," head coach Steward Bortey said. "This should be a fun season and we look to take more steps forward."
Dodge City finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 10-8-1 and 8-5-1 in KJCCC play. The Conqs fell just behind Barton in the rankings, who finished fourth with a conference record of 8-4-2.
The Conquistadors were able to complete season sweeps of Hesston, Pratt and Garden City, while splitting the season series with Cloud and Barton with the first game against the Cougars ending in a 0-0 tie.
The Conquistadors will hold an alumni scrimmage on August 13, before they kick off their season on August 22, when they will host Trinidad State College at 2 p.m.
The Conqs will then go on the road for the next five games as they travel to Wilburton, Okla., to take on Seminole State College on August 24, before turning around to play Eastern Oklahoma State on August 25th. Dodge City will then make the trip to Tabor on August 28, before they begin KJCCC play at the beginning of September.
Finishing off the long road swing, the Conquistadors will begin conference play at Pratt Community College on September 5, before heading to Cloud Community College just three days later on September 5.
Dodge City will then play their first conference home game on September 12, as they host Northwest Kansas Technical College at 2 p.m. The Conqs will then head back to the road for three straight away games, traveling to Barton Community College on Sept. 15, Hutchinson Community College on Sept. 19, and Hesston Community College on Sept. 22.
To finish out the month of September, the Conquistadors will play two games of a three-game home stand, hosting Garden City Community College on Sept. 26 and Pratt Community College on Sept. 29, before beginning the month of October with a home game against Cloud Community College on Oct. 3.
After traveling to Goodland, Kan., on Oct. 6, the Conqs will come back home to play three more home games against Barton Community College, Hutchinson Community College and Hesston Community College on Oct. 10, Oct. 13, and Oct. 17, respectively. Dodge City will then finish its regular season on Oct. 21, traveling to Garden City.
"Every game we have on our schedule is a big game," Bortey said. "Everyone is preparing to kick the season off. Everything is unpredictable now until the season kicks off. All I know is that we look to accomplish great things with everyone we have involved with this program."
