With student-athletes just weeks away from returning to campus, head men's basketball coach Steve Tucker has announced the 2018-19 Conquistador men's basketball schedule.

Dodge City's basketball schedule will consist of four teams who made the NJCAA National Championship last season including, Barton, Hutchinson, Coffeyville and South Plains. South Plains will come into the 2018-19 season as the defending National Champions as they knocked off Southern Idaho in the Championship game in the 2017-18 season.

"We are excited about the upcoming basketball season," head coach Steve Tucker said. "We have a young and exciting team. Our schedule will consist of nine non-conference matchups and 21 Jayhawk Conference games highlighted by matchups with some of the top teams in the nation."

The Conqs will get things started early with a purple and gold scrimmage on October 13. Dodge City will then play three more scrimmages in the month of October against Sunrise Prep Academy, Life Prep Academy and Fort Carson Military.

The regular season will then begin on Nov. 1, as the Conquistadors will host Sisseton Wahpeton College at 7:30 p.m., in the Student Activity Center. After hosting Bethany College JV on Nov. 5, the Conqs will play in the Seward College Classic and host the Conq Classic on back-to-back weekends.

Dodge City will then take on Lee-Baytown Junior College and Grayson Junior College on Nov. 20 and Nov. 24, respectively, before opening KJCCC play on Nov. 28 at Independence Community College. The Conqs will play four games in the month of December, three of which will be played in the Student Activity Center.

The KJCCC home opener will be on Dec. 1 as the Conqs host Neosho Community College. They will then host Butler Community College on Dec. 5, before hitting the road to take on Cloud Community College on Dec. 8. Dodge City will then head into Christmas break after hosting Allen County Community College on Dec. 12.

After the break, the Conqs will play their final non-conference game on the year on Jan. 5, against Northern Oklahoma-Enid. They will then play Cowley College and Coffeyville Community College on the road before playing Colby Community College and Barton Community College at home on Jan. 14 and Jan. 16.

To round out the month of January, the Conqs will have two home games against Hutchinson Community College and Garden City Community College and two road games against Seward County Community College and Pratt Community College.

In the final month of the regular season, Dodge City will be on the road for five of their eight games with home games against Northwest Tech, Seward County and Pratt. The Conqs will then play Northwest Tech one more time on Feb. 23, in Goodland, Kan., to finish up the regular season.

"Some big games on our schedule this year are the defending National Champions, South Plains Junior College out of Texas and three Jayhawk Conference teams that made the National Championships last March," Tucker said. "Annual matchups with arch rivals Garden City and Seward County also standout on the upcoming season schedule. A young reworked Conquistador roster will be ready for the challenges of the upcoming season."
