The Kansas Jayhawks volleyball team opens the season Friday with the first of back-to-back matches against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The match is scheduled for for 6 p.m. central time in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Friday’s match will be the 12th time the teams have met, with KU leading the series 7-4. The team’s split the first eight, but KU has won the last three and is 4-1 in Fayetteville.

The Jayhawks are 17-3 in season-openers under head coach Ray Bechard, who enters his 21st season as head coach. The Razorbacks are 16 of 24 all-time in season-openers and have won six of their last eight.

After Friday’s match, the two teams both head to Lawrence for another match, on Aug. 26 in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.

The Jayhawks are 3-3 all-time in the series when games are played in Lawrence. Sunday’s match is scheduled for 1 p.m.

KU went 22-8 overall last season, finishing 22-8 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
